What is ergonomics

HomeWhat is ergonomics

Ergonomics is a branch of health sciences that tries to find the "best fit" between the worker and the job conditions.   The goal of the science is to make sure workers stay safe, comfortable and productive.  Proper ergonomics focuses on identifying risk factors for injury and applying proper ergonomics principles to minimize that risk.

Risk factors for injuries are situations like; awkward positions, repetitive motions, forceful exertions.  Ergonomics principles that every worker needs to know include; keeping the joints in a neutral body position, keeping work close to the body, avoid bending forward, alternate postures as well as movements.

At Brampton Union Ergonomics Clinic our health professionals are trained to educate workers on proper ergonomics.  We also provide medical ergonomics devices as a way to decrease risk of injury.   Properly fitted braces can be worn at work to help ease the stress on painful joints.  Custom made foot orthotics can be worn comfortably in any shoe type.  Medical compression socks can be worn by all workers to promote better circulation and help relieve tired, aching, fatigued legs and mild to moderate swelling.

Please contact the clinic to learn about proper ergonomics. Brampton Union Ergonomics is focused on helping you work better.
